MAHARASHTRA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

OBJECTIVE :
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, popularly known as MIDC, was established on 1st August,1962. Constituted
under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act, 1961, MIDC's basic objective is to set up industrial areas with a provision of
industrialinfrastructure all over the State for planed and systematic industrial
development.
ACTIVITIES :
a) Development of industrial areas by acquiring land
b) Preparing layout with suitable grouping of plots of various sizes and allotment of plots on
leasehold basis.
c) Construction of roads, drainage system and provision of streetlights in the industrial areas.
d) Planning, implementing and managing water supply schemes.
e) Establishing common facility centres (CFC) by providing accomodations for bank, post office,
telecom facilities, police station, fire station, medical facilities, canteen etc.
f) Establishment of effluent collection and disposal systems for chemical zones.
g) Implementing Government/Semi-Government projects.
BUILT- UP SHEDS
MIDC has all along taken care of small entrepreneur. If the waiting period between the allotment of land and commencement of
production is reduced, the small entrepreneur is benefitted immensely, it is observed.
Keeping this in mind MIDC has taken up construction of building consisting of small-size galas. These ready-to-install machinery
galas received instant acceptance. They are always in great demand. Since its inception, MIDC has constructed over 3,891 sheds
and over 813 galas in different industrial areas.
NEW CONCEPT OF DEVELOPMENT
Maharashtra is committed to attract Foreign Direct investments in the State. This is the cornerstone of the State Industrial,
Business and Commercial Policy of 1995. To create the right ambience for foreign investors, the State announced the setting up
of 9 Five Star Industrial Estates. These shall be developed into Model Industrial Townships with adequate industrial and social
infrastructure of international standards.
Development work has already started at Butibori, Nandgaon Peth, Mahad, Shendre, Kushnur, Indapur and Hatkangale with
allotment of plots. And in the remaining estates, land acquisition is in the final stages.
As a follow up action to implement new industrial policy, MIDC is developing five star standard industrial areas at the following nine
locations :
* Butibori (Nagpur)
* Sinnar (Nashik)
* Nandgaon Peth (Amravati)
* Waluj-Shendre (Aurangabad)
* Kushnur (Nanded)
* Kagal, Hatkanangale (Kolhapur)
* Mahad (Raigad)
* Nivli Phata (Ratnagiri)
* Indapur (Pune)
IT in Maharashtra - a statistical success story.
Statistically strong. That's IT in Maharashtra. No wonder international giants have made Maharashtra their first investment choice.
Out of 14 lakh internet subscribers, 4.5 lakh (32%) are in Maharashtra.
* 35 % of total PC penetration in the country is on account of Maharashtra.
* 30% of the country's software exports are being contributed by Maharashtra.
* The highest number of software exporting units are registered in Maharashtra (1251).
* 25% of India's top 500 software companies are in Maharashtra.
* The largest number of internet service providers (34 ISPs) are based in Mumbai, including the largest - VSNL.
* 1,58,000 trained technical and scientific manpower is being added each year by engineering colleges and ITI's.
* Specialised institutions in Maharashtra like C-DAC- developer of India's first super computer, Pune University,
Mumbai UNIVERSITY, ITI, VJTI, National Centre of Software Technology are churning out skilled technicians
every year.
* Specialised IT parks have already been developed / are being planend by MIDC, CIDCO and STPI.
* 7 smaller IT Parks are fast coming up at various district locations.
* A knowledge Corridor is being set up between Pune and Mumbai with 3 IT Parks in each city. Optic fibre cabling
and a super expressway will link the two cities shortly.
IT PARKS :
1. SEEPZ
Located in the heart of metropolitan Mumbai, SEEPZ, the oldest and largest software park in the country was established in
1974. Encouraged by the success of SEEPZ and looking at the phenomenal growth of IT companies in
SEEPZ, MIDC has
decided to construct another software complex on 3.5 hectares of land next to
SEEPZ.
2. AIROLI KNOWLEDGE PARK
Today, high-end research and development in virtually any discipline requires good data connectivity, reliable and quality
power and a pleasing campus-like atmosphere. To meet these requirements, MIDC is developing the airoli Knowledge Park
(AKP) on 110 hectares of land across the Thane Creek in Navi Mumbai.
3. MILLENIUM BUSINESS PARK
Spread over 18 hectares, Millennium Business Park (MBP) is a colony of 32 building specially designed for Software and
Information Technology enabled services. Millennium Business Park, and MIDC project, is yet another effort by the
Government of Maharashtra to facilitate India's march towards global dominance in Information Technology.
4. TALAWADE SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGY PARK
MIDC has developed a 75 hectare area specialized complex for software at
Talawade, 5 kms from the Pimpri-Chinchwad
industrial area.
5. PUNE INFOTECH PARK, HINJAWADI, NEAR PUNE PHASE I AND PHASE II
Spread over 80 hectares, the Pune infotech Park (PIP) is planned as an integrated complex with Optic Fibre Telecommunication
links with dual leased line connectivity of VSNL/STP. The park is located on the Mumbai-Pune western bypass road.
6. KHARADI KNOWLEDGE PARK
Spread over 30 hectares of land, the Kharadi Knowledge ark is just 10
kms. away from the Pune city. It has been planned as
an integrated complex which will also house Indian Institute of Software Engineering
(IISE) and an incubation centre for
entrepreneurs.
Strengthening Software Sinews - The State IT Incentives.
Policy Highlights :
* Software industries will be allowed in residential, industrial and commercial zones.
* The software industry will be included as one of the permissible users in the No Development Zones.
* 100% additional FSI will be allotted for Software Technology Parks set up by public bodies, on payment of
premium amounting to 25% of the market value.
* No MPCB (Maharashtra Pollution Control Board) clearance is required for software units.
* Sales Tax on hardware will be reduced to 2%, on packaged and off-the-shelf software to 1% and on
customized software to nil. These rates will remain constant for the next 5 years.
* Octroi charged by local bodies on the IT industry will be refunded.
* Electricity duty on power used by IT products will be waived.
* There will be no stamp duty on property transactions within designated Software / Infotech Parks as well as
on instruments of software companies such as lease documents, issue of shares etc. Registration charges
will be kept to a maximum of Rs.1000 only.
MIDC is doing everything within its powers to promote the IT industry within the state of Maharashtra.
The spotlight is on software and hardware industry conglomerates that are seeking premises to avail of the tremendous opportunity
offered to this industry by the State Government.
To promote this fast growing sector that holds enormous promise for the future, MIDC offers nothing but the best in IT parks.
A large number of international companies have already booked premises or have even begun operating from MIDC's IT Parks.
Prominent among these parks are the Millennium Business Park and Pune Infotech Park at Hinjawadi, near Pune.
