Founded in the year 1949 by late Sheth Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai and Shri Amritlal Hargovandas, President and Vice-President respectively, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has emerged as an apex organisation of Trade and Industry in Gujarat region. Having established itself as a dynamic and vibrant organisation of trade and industry in Gujarat, GCCI is acting as a catalyst in building Gujarat through its network of 260 Chambers and associations of trade and industry spread all over the state. It has emerged as the biggest regional chamber in the country with large servicing base and commands considerable status, standing reputation and respect not only locally but also nationally and internationally Mission Promote trade, industry and profession so as to achieve sustainable all round economic growth of Gujarat. Deal with concerns, issues and problems of the business community and effectively resolve the same. Create a proactive partnership between government (local, state and control) and business community (locally, nationally and globally). Performance Highlights Acting as a catalyst in building Gujarat, and its trade and industry, GCCI during the last more than 5 decades of its existence had endeavored to provide multifarious and diversified services to trade and industry of Gujarat both in vernacular and english languages so as to provide value maximization to its members with strong ethics of good governance. GCCI offers various types of diversified services that include information about economic policies and procedures and clarifications along with suggestions on tax laws and other regulations of State, Central and Local government, besides general information of interest to trade and industry through monthly bulletin. Even complaints or grievances received from the members pertaining to any government department are closely examined and appropriate action taken on replies thereto received, are communicated to parties concerned. Since lot of awareness had taken place in the mofussil areas, the members from these areas are taking appreciable advantage of the services of the Chamber vis-à-vis urban members. The Chamber's commitment to better, effective and more efficient services to the members and the community at large has produced positive results year after year. It has made GCCI a stable organisation that has withstood the test of time. It has registered phenomenal growth in membership over the years as can be seen from the following: Year Membership The Chamber has recently celebrated Golden Jubilee which was attended by about 12,000 delegates from all over Gujarat and the same was inaugurated by Shri Yashwant Sinha, Hon'ble Finance Minister-Government of India. The theme of the Golden Jubilee year was "Global Gujarat" which dedicated the year 1998-99 as the year for making Gujarat - The Economic Power House of 21st Century. GCCI has added a new dimension by adopting the theme "Global Gujarat - Resurgent Gujarat" and being partner in the project "Resurgent Gujarat" which has been jointly sponsored by MEA, FICCI, Government of Gujarat and GCCI. This represents a novel surge of dynamism and enthusiasm of the Chamber towards globalisation of Gujarat. This integrates long cherished traditions of the Chamber with its thrust towards meeting with the emerging challenges and opportunities of harnessing foreign funds and technology in the development of trade and industry and to overlook development of Gujarat in the new millennium. Nirma-GCCI Business Information Centre Facilities Books - Has a rich collection of books, available for borrowing by members, on trade, industry, commerce, economics, import- export, taxation, customs, excise and many other subjects related to business. The Centre maintains a very high profile collection of reference books viz. Wealth of India, Central and State Government Gazettes, Census Reports and many more. Periodicals - NGBIC subscribes to 205 Indian and Foreign periodicals covering business and commerce related subjects. Newspapers - Currently 20 dailies from Gujarat, Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai are being subscribed. To provide micro information on the subjects about 250 newspaper cutting files are maintained. Trade Directories & Country Profiles - NGBIC maintains latest trade directories of various countries. A number of country profiles are being received and files are maintained for use. The Centre also maintains a collection of latest Publications of Seminar Reports, Central & State Government Budget Publications, Annual Reports, Committee Reports, etc. Bulletins - About 250 files containing various bulletins are maintained. Newspaper Files - The NGBIC receives 20 English and Gujarati dailies. About 250 files of newspaper cuttings are maintained on relevant business and trade related copies. Article Files - About 225 files are maintained which contains articles from newspapers, bulletins, periodicals, etc. to provide the latest information. Electronic Publications - The centre has procured CD-ROMs on various subjects viz. CMIE database, iNDEXTb CD-ROM, etc. International Business Delegations Delegations sent by Chamber The main objective of these business delegations around the globe is to spread knowledge and acquaintance of India trade and business relationships with each of these countries so as to promote bilateral trade and economic co operation. The delegations were lead by the President of the Chamber which consisted of a cross-section of Gujarat industry, trade and professionals, comprising of men and women of attainment in their respective spheres.
